Child custody lawyers in Springfield, Illinois
Child custody. Visitation rights. Mediation. What you need to know but probably don’t.Few issues in a divorce are as contentious as child custody agreements. And yet, according to the 900 Series of Illinois Supreme Court rules, a couple who’s not getting along must still attempt to create a workable arrangement which serves the best interests of the child.
In mandatory mediation, both spouses sit down with a neutral mediator (often an attorney) who helps them find common ground and work out custody, time-sharing, and a parenting plan. Because the mediator can’t give legal advice, each spouse may also retain an attorney.
Family law lawyers at Feldman Wasser understand how difficult this process can be. Our singular goal is to provide you with the information and support you need to make decisions you can live with regarding divorce, division of property, child support, and child custody.
We take great pride in the fact one of our partners is on the legislative committee responsible for enacting substantive changes to Illinois child custody law
In mediation, you have two options:
- You may choose to retain one of our attorneys to serve as counsel to look out for your interests.
- You may retain FeldmanWasser to act as the neutral mediator. Our family lawyers are certified mediators.
We will try to work things out as amicably as humanly possible. But if mediation fails, we’re prepared to litigate for an equitable resolution.
Our attorneys can also serve as court-ordered child representatives and assist relocating parents with renegotiating child custody and child support according to the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction Act (UCCJA).
